Thrills

Cedar
Point is a thrill-seeker’s paradise. Whatever you
crave, Cedar Point has it – higher, faster, curvier,
and crazier. Voted "Best Amusement Park in the World" for
8 years running by Amusement Today newspaper, Cedar Point
boasts 2 of the 3 tallest roller coasters in the world
(and more coasters over 200 ft. high than any other park),
2 of the 10 longest coasters in North America, the world’s
2nd fastest coaster, and more rides than any other park.
When it comes to thrills, Cedar Point has always been ahead
of the competition, recording numerous industry firsts. In
1976, Corkscrew was the first coaster to turn its riders
upside down a dizzying 3 times! Gemini debuted in 1978 as
the tallest, fastest, and steepest coaster on Earth. In 1989,
Magnum XL200 grabbed the tallest, fastest, and steepest awards
as well as being the first complete-circuit coaster scaling
over 200 feet in the air. 1991 saw the Mean Streak grab titles
as the tallest and fastest wooden roller coaster. The inverted
coaster Raptor (1994) was the tallest and fastest of its
kind, as well as having more inversions than any other. Tallest,
fastest, and most looped stand-up coaster titles went to
Mantis in 1996. The year 2000 unveiled Millennium Force as
the tallest and fastest – the first coaster ever to
reach over 300 feet tall. Wicked Twister’s 2002 debut
made it the world’s tallest, fastest, and first double-spiraling
impulse coaster. 2003 continued the envelope pushing with
Top Thrill Dragster, an accelerator coaster rocketing riders
to 120 mph in four seconds and scaling a height of 420 feet.
But roller coasters aren’t the only thrills available
at Cedar Point. Eight various Thrill Rides are scattered
throughout the park grounds. The newest is Skyhawk, two giant
swinging arms, each 84 feet in length, with 20 seats on each
arm. Skyhawk reaches speeds of 60 mph and a height over 125
feet. The Frisbee-style maXair spins riders seemingly out
of control at 70 mph and up to 140 feet in the air. The park
center features the 240-feet-high Power Tower. Two columns
blast riders UP, two columns drop you DOWN – both in
only 3 seconds! Classic Cedar Point Thrill Rides include
Demon Drop, Chaos, Witches’ Wheel, Troika, Monster
and Ocean Motion.
